He started playing in rock bands in elementary school in Japan and studied classical guitar under Yasumasa Obara in junior high school, and later played in the backing bands of Takao Horiuchi of Alice and Kazuo Funaki. In 1981, he moved to the U.S., graduated from Berkeley College of Music in 1985, and moved to New York.
In 1997, he released a CD [UNKNOWN CREATURE]. He has been performing live and recently has been focusing on composing music as well.
Since 1995, he has returned to Japan every year to tour with his own group, Zane Massey, etc. In 2000, he wrote a song for the popular TV drama "Sex and the City". In 2002, he performed at the Smithsonian Museum Concert Hall in Washington, D.C.
In 2003 and 2005, the Amaria Gre Group released CDs on the EMI label. In the same year, they went on a music tour throughout Italy.
In 2014, he released Yoshiki's CD [Whispers from 015].
He has participated in New York Jazz Clubs, JVC Jazz Festivals, Heineken Jazz Festivals, etc., and has also participated in New York Texaco Jazz Festivals with his own group. Recently, he is also active as a YouTuber.
