Biography
Takahiro Koishi is a woodworker from Gunma Prefecture.
He creates boxes that incorporate traditional Japanese fingerwork techniques.
Most of the boxes he produces are tabletop size, and he focuses on the appearance of the boxes.
He is also researching ways to reduce warping and distortion of wood and is exploring the possibilities of wood while attempting to make his own plywood.
He majored in lacquer art as an undergraduate at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and completed his graduate studies in woodworking.
He is currently working as a teaching and research assistant in the woodworking laboratory at the Tokyo University of the Arts, where he exhibits his work mainly in group shows.
